Low Back Pain Physical Therapy in Riverdale, MD
Back Pain Doesn't Get the Final Word
Stiff, aching, or sharp—low back pain that keeps interrupting how you train and move has a root cause. We find it and build a one-on-one plan to get you back to it.

Pushing Through Back Pain Only Teaches Your Body to Brace Around It
Rest Helps Until You Load It Again
Backing off for a few weeks can calm low back pain down, but it usually returns the moment you deadlift, run, or sit too long again—because the underlying driver was never addressed.
It's Quietly Changing How You Move
Guarding your back, bracing on one side, or avoiding bending shifts load onto your hips, knees, and the surrounding muscles. Those small compensations pile up into bigger problems over time.
Generic Core Work Isn't Targeting It
Endless planks and crunches off the internet rarely match what your back actually needs. Without knowing the real driver, you're guessing—and guessing burns months you didn't need to lose.
Low Back Pain Care Led by Licensed DPTs
Every low back pain plan at Process PT is built and delivered by a doctor of physical therapy—using objective testing and hands-on treatment, never a handed-off protocol.

What Brings Athletes In With Low Back Pain
People come to us when low back pain keeps getting in the way of training, lifting, or daily life. These are the situations we help with most.
Stiff, Aching Lower Back - That deep, persistent ache that shows up after sitting, training, or a long day and never fully settles down.
Sciatica and Nerve-Related Leg Pain - Pain, tingling, or numbness that travels from the low back into the glute or down the leg.
Pain With Lifting and Deadlifts - Sharp or guarding pain when you hinge, squat, or pull that's pulling you off your training plan.
Back Pain From Sitting All Day - Stiffness and aching that builds with desk work and long commutes, then bites the moment you finally get moving.
Pain With Rotation and Twisting - A catch or flare when you rotate to swing, throw, or change direction—common in golfers and field athletes.
Recurring Flare-Ups and Tweaks - A back that "goes out" every few months and keeps interrupting training no matter how careful you are.
Stubborn Mid-Back Tightness - Tightness between the shoulder blades and into the mid back that limits your overhead position and breathing under load.

Frequently Asked Questions
Thinking about PT for your low back pain? Here's what athletes in Riverdale ask us most.
Do I need to stop training while we work on my low back pain?
Usually not. Keeping you moving is central to how we work. We learn the demands of your sport or lifting, then adjust load and exercise selection so you can keep training as much as is safely possible while your back recovers—rather than shutting everything down.
What actually causes low back pain in active adults?
Low back pain usually traces back to how you move and load—mobility limits, an under-coordinated core and hips, or patterns that overload the spine. We use movement assessment and, when helpful, force plate testing to find the real driver instead of guessing, then build your plan around it.
Is low back pain physical therapy covered if I have insurance?
We're a cash-based clinic and don't bill insurance directly. You get a full hour one-on-one with your DPT every visit, and we provide a superbill after each session that you can submit for potential out-of-network reimbursement. We also accept HSA and FSA cards.
How soon will I notice a difference?
Every back is different, so we don't promise timelines. Many patients notice meaningful changes in pain and movement within the first few weeks, and after your initial assessment we'll give you a clear picture of what your plan looks like based on how your body responds.
What happens during my first visit?
Your first session is a full hour with your DPT. We assess how your spine, hips, and core move and load, look at the areas around them, and start to pinpoint what's driving your symptoms—so everything from that point is built around your body, not a generic protocol.
